Well, the Downtown Chamber Series (DCS) did it again with another amazing evening of sights and sounds that left the audience grinning ear to ear. This concert was held two nights (Jan 13 & 15) at MonOrchid in downtown Phoenix. If you don’t know DCS look them up on Facebook and ‘like’ them so you can follow their concert announcements. Also please take a moment to visit the DCS website to see other information and to be added to their email list. DCS is a non-profit group of volunteers of the Phoenix Symphony volunteering their time to share chamber music in smaller intimate spaces shared with whimsical art pieces. The miniature admission fee helps cover wine, coffee, and appetizers during the intermission.
Sometimes special guests from other cities perform with DCS, and in this case they had the fresh and upcoming Joe Pug, a singer/songwriter known for his modern country-folk pieces. He captivated the audience with his electrifying vocals, acoustic guitar stringing, and harmonica sounds. Visit Joe Pug’s website to learn more about him.
Other performers included Peter Lorenzo Anderegg (cello), Mark Dix (viola), Leslie Frey (violin), Micahel Kazepides (bass), Alex Laing (clarinet), and Rob Simonds (violin). A few wonderful and historic pieces were performed, and the one that had everyone on the edge of their seats was the String Quartet No. 6 by Béla Bartók.
Keep in mind these concerts always sell out so get your tickets in advance! DCS is a terrific way to experience local music in local spaces, and supporting locals artists.
