Earlier this year I got the great privilege to photograph the Arizona Capitol building’s dome! The state had just replaced the original copper plating so it was very shiny, like a new penny! For the Centennial festivities on our state’s birthday {February 14th} it was also requested to light the dome and the Nike statue. Lights Up Arizona came to the rescue with some amazing LED spotlights to get the job done and they asked me to tag along to photograph the process and the results. Several of my friends know I’ve been a little freakishly excited about the Centennial, so this was a super treat!
This is one of the final displays of the lighting. The LED lamps were able to change colors and power levels for a dramatic affect.
A shot when on the roof of the senate building where the spotlights were physically installed. Steller view!
…although Lights Up Arizona didn’t light the stage, I couldn’t stop myself from snapping this fun shot!
Check it out, this is the oversized ceremonial switch to turn on the new dome lights! And yes it was functional too.

Be sure to get some shots of the opening of the Arizona Experience Museum (AKA 5C Arizona Centennial Museum).

Thanks for the reminder! I still need to visit it myself. Am planning to use any freetime this summer to document more Arizona must sees! : )
